What is IPL?
An IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) photofacial is a non-invasive cosmetic treatment that uses broad-spectrum light to target sun damage, brown spots, redness, and broken capillaries. By delivering light energy to the skin, it stimulates collagen production and creates a clearer, more even complexion with minimal downtime.
During the treatment, pulses of light at a variety of frequencies penetrate the skin and are absorbed by specific targets: melanin (the pigment in sun spots/freckles) and hemoglobin (in the blood vessels causing redness). These targets heat up and break apart, and your body naturally clears them away over 7 to 10 days typically.
IPL Photofacial
Intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy, also known as a photo facial, is a way to improve the color and texture of your skin without surgery. It can undo some of the visible damage caused by sun exposure — called photoaging. IPL can help if you have red, brown, or splotchy skin because of a health condition or sun damage.
It will effectively remove age spots and uneven tone restoring a clear complexion giving a younger looking complexion. It is a non-invasive procedure, using pulses of light and heat to awaken your body's own rejuvenation abilities!

We use a Harmony IPL made by Alma Lasers
How IPL Works
The IPL Photofacial treatment uses short blasts of targeted high-intensity light and heat energy to target age spots and "lift" them out, a process known as micro-crusting. It can specifically treat vascular lesions closing off leaking vessels and improve redness as well as treat active acne to kill bacteria. The heat energy will improve scar tissue and smooth out acne scarring. In addition, it improves tone & texture.
- Targets age spots via micro-crusting
- Closes vascular lesions & reduces redness
- Kills acne bacteria with heat energy
- Smooths acne scarring & scar tissue
- Improves overall tone & texture

Frequently Asked Questions
Is It Safe?
Not only is this treatment completely safe, but it uses natural methods to visibly improve the skin, reverse aging, and eliminate hyperpigmentation. It targets discolored, damaged, and old skin cells where needed without harming the surrounding tissue.
It will rejuvenate and brighten the skin and treat dullness, discoloration, aging, and more. Patients won't have to worry about adverse reactions or side effects or even plan around significant downtime after their treatment.
Who It's Right For?
IPL is safe for light to medium skin types, however as it targets pigmentation or age spots, darker skin tones are not recommended for this treatment. In those cases our CoolPeel® CO2 skin resurfacing is recommended as it is safe for all skin types.
While there are certain factors which may affect your eligibility for this treatment (infections, certain chronic illnesses, immune disorders, etc.), IPL accommodates a wide variety of patients. At your initial consultation, we will evaluate your skin and confirm whether a photofacial with the IPL is the right choice for you. We can also make other treatment recommendations at that time to ensure you achieve the most comprehensive results from your customized treatment plan.
How to Maximize Your Results With IPL Photofacial
Though IPL photofacial is a highly well-tolerated, fully noninvasive treatment, there are still several key steps that every recipient of this treatment should take to safeguard results and protect the skin in both the short-term and long-term scenario. These steps include, but are not limited to the following:
Gentle cleansing: Use irritant-free cleansers on a daily basis following your IPL treatment to ensure the skin stays as clear as possible for as long as possible.
Cool the skin: In the days following your treatment, it's important to avoid subjecting the area to high heat (saunas, hot showers, etc.). Aloe vera and/or cold compresses can help keep the skin cool.
Sun protection: In both the short-term and long-term IPL aftercare scenarios, using sun protection is always a good idea. Optimally, you will completely avoid any significant UV exposure for at least two weeks following your most recent procedure, and continue to use high-SPF protection afterwards.
Hydration: Finally, hydrating your skin and the rest of your body with gentle moisturizers and adequate water intake will help to equip your skin with the components it needs to lubricate, repair, and defend itself.

Come in and let a skin care specialist evaluate your skin! The best way to determine what treatment is best for you is an in-person consultation. We need to see the issues and skin in order to properly assess your needs and determine which service or combination of treatments would be best for you and your skin type.
Results can vary — for best results, a series of 6 treatments are recommended.
IPL treatments are not recommended for darker natural skin tones. However, we have other treatments such as skin resurfacing that may be a better fit.
